About The Role

We’re looking for a music director to steer our growth in worship. We’re an open evangelical charismatic church, looking for the right person to lead and expand our existing worship team, and enhance our sung contemporary worship.

You will oversee our worship ministry, motivate, equip and develop our existing musicians, recruit and train new members and nurture people’s faith, musical gifts and creativity.

If you’re a good musician, with in-depth experience of leading worship in a paid or unpaid capacity then we’d love to hear from you. This is a part time role that can be done alongside other commitments, offering flexible working (noting Sunday responsibilities), great colleagues and a budget to support your ministry and professional development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Overseeing and developing worship ministry
a. Develop and implement a vision for worship in line with our church vision.
b. Ensure rehearsals, planning and leading of worship at our Services and events are well led. This will include leading and playing on a regular basis but also supporting and encouraging other worship leaders as they lead and play.
c. Overseeing the Worship Rota on ChurchSuite, including arranging swaps, ensuring we have cover for services.
d. Provision of worship music, or ensuring that this is provided, at other gatherings in the life of the church, e.g., Alpha Holy Spirit away day.
e. Ensuring we have musical input at special seasonal services, e.g., Christmas Eve all age Service.

2. Developing our Existing Team
a. Motivating our existing team of musicians and singers by providing a compelling, theologically rooted vision for spirit filled worship.
b. Develop our worship team, equipping them to provide excellence in our musical worship.
c. Contribute to a working environment of mutual Christian encouragement.

3. New Team
a. Recruiting new team members, with a special emphasis on working with younger people.
b. Ensure a healthy balance between opportunities for growth and development but also ensuring a good quality of worship.
c. Mentoring and developing new worship leaders.
d. Organise and implement training opportunities for new team members to help them grow in their gifts.

4. Worship teams
a. Ensure pastoral care for all team members.
b. Develop a supportive team environment for all involved with worship across the parish.

5. Other duties
a. Management of worship budget.
b. Liaise with the Tech Co-ordinator, ensuring the tech systems meets the needs of the music team.
c. Ensure good standards of care for team and congregation through implementation of Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies and principles.
d. Write a brief report for the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM).
e. Such other roles as may be deemed necessary by the Line Manager from time to time to ensure effective implementation of the church’s mission.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. Character and skills
a. A good musician with instrumental and vocal skills and the ability to train and lead others in their musicianship.
b. Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate with all people, whatever their age, background or life stage.
c. Able to set realistic goals and targets and able to set a sustainable pace of work.
d. Able to work according to set priorities (agreed with the Rector) and action them accordingly.
e. Able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

2. Knowledge, Training and Experience
a. Experienced leading sung worship in a church setting.
b. Experience with music technology and working with tech teams.
c. At ease with the responsibility of leading worship groups and exercising oversight of voluntary teams.

3. A good team builder with experience of supervising, motivating, and encouraging others to worship God in song as well as in other liturgically appropriate expressions.
4. Organisational and administrative skills including some experience in managing a budget area.
5. Passionate about the Bible and applying its truths in the context of worship.
