Many churches run weekly foodbanks, food pantries & meal provision, baby banks, hygiene banks, money & debt advice and a range of other support for those among us who are struggling to make ends meet, or in financial crisis.

Churches also are involved in tackling the root of the problem – low wages – by participating in the Living Wage movement.

Part of a series of webinars covering issues facing churches as they respond to the ongoing Cost of Living Crisis in our communities. According to The Trussell Trust, the need for foodbanks has risen by 81% in the last five years. Many churches run foodbanks, food pantries, community meals and other food distribution services. This webinar asks: are foodbanks a sustainable, long-term response & are there alternatives?

Universal Credit Basics (Part 1)

This is part 1 of an introduction to Universal Credit (UC), the government's main 'working age' welfare benefit. This part, delivered by Alison Tsang, covers the basics of what the benefit is, how to apply and how you can help people navigating the system for the first time. This training is aimed at volunteers in churches who are working in their communities with those on low income, e.g. foodbanks, toddler groups, debt advice, drop ins, etc., so they have a basic knowledge of the welfare system and can help people navigate it.
