About The Role

St Margaret Pattens is a thriving Guild Church in the heart of the City of London with a loyal congregation, an outstanding musical tradition, and is the church of the Worshipful Companies of Pattenmakers and Basketmakers. Guild Churches, unique to the City of London, minister to the working population rather than to a residential parish, are led by a Guild Vicar, and governed by a Guild Church Council. The term “Guild Church” does not refer to the Livery Companies but distinguishes it from a Parish church as it focuses on business community worship, cultural and educational activities and holds weekday services, St. Margaret Pattens having a Thursday service.
We are seeking a priest who will build on our strengths while helping us engage more deeply with both the City’s business community and those who work in the City, seeking faith in an increasingly complex world.
The post is one to two days per week, for a Self-Supporting Minister, and does not include accommodation, but reasonable expenses will be met in full.

The successful candidate will ideally be someone who:
• is rooted in the Anglican tradition while appreciating opportunities for thoughtful, sensitive liturgical development;
• is an engaging and inspiring preacher, able to communicate with warmth, humour and clarity through sermons that are concise, intelligent and relevant to the contemporary life of a diverse, engaged congregation;
• shares our vision of increasing outreach to those who work in the City, with the energy and imagination for building relationships with local businesses and welcoming those exploring faith;
• is comfortable and sincere in ministering to an inclusive church that welcomes people of every background;
• will enjoy strengthening the relationships with our two Livery Companies, through hospitality, pastoral care and active participation, potentially serving as Honorary Chaplain to both;
• values the role of choral music in enriching worship, and the historical and cultural importance of a Wren church;
• will work collaboratively with our Administrator, Guild Church Council, Churchwardens, volunteers and neighbouring City churches to develop the church’s ministry and mission.
