What we do

The purpose of the Westminster Climate Forum is to bring Church of England churches together to share ideas, inspire and support each other on our response to creation care and tackling climate change. We do this Primarily through Eco Church engagement and reducing our carbon footprint.
We meet periodically to share stories, ideas and plan collaborative activities. This might include arranging opportunities to see energy efficiency and decarbonisation solutions in action across Westminster churches, putting on shared events (open to all, not just forum members), and exploring ways to collaborate.
Today, the Climate Forum is a growing network of churches learning from each other, attracting funding, and moving decisively towards eco church and net zero carbon, together.
We would love to invite all anglican churches in Westminster to get involved.

How my church can get involved

  1. Sign Up to receive forum newsletters and latest events.
  2. Join In – get a leader or representative to come along to meetings to hear from others about how to get started.
  3. Take Action – get started on your Eco Church journey (with PCC agreement). This is a simple process, and a brilliant way to kick start your creation care and carbon and energy reduction journey.
NOTE: You’re welcome to attend events and take part in Forum activity whether your church is part of Eco Church or not. Joining Eco Church is a great way to help you in your journey, engage your wider community and enables access to Church of England funding, as Eco Church membership is required for these opportunities.

How it began

The Westminster Climate Forum grew out of a simple but powerful idea – churches would move faster and further towards tackling the climate crisis if they worked together.
In 2023, a group of anglican churches in Westminster were already active in the A Rocha Eco Church programme, with two (St James’ Piccadilly and St Paul’s Marylebone) reaching gold level status. Conversations between these churches highlighted both a gap and exciting potential; churches wanted to act, but needed shared learning, funding support, and trusted routes into practical action.
A small group comprising church leaders and volunteers managed to secure initial funding to deliver free energy audits. The first ten churches to receive audits were already Eco Church members and became the founder churches of what would soon be named the Westminster Net Zero Forum.
The running and work of the Churches Climate Forum has been generously supported by Westminster Council and Grosvenor Greener Futures Fund.
