About The Role
We are seeking someone to help ensure our Sunday mornings continue to run smoothly. We have two services – a Said Mass from the Book of Common Prayer at 8:00 am, and a full Sung Mass, with children’s activity (in term-time) and choir at 10:30 am. In between the Masses the choir rehearses, and refreshments are set up, to be served after the Sung Mass ends. The Verger will undertake various tasks helping to facilitate these joyful celebrations. Acting as a Verger will sometimes mean being the first person people meet as they enter a church. At St Saviour’s we are very committed to being welcoming as it has the capacity to transform lives. Practical assistance with tasks will also offer tremendous support.
The minimum time commitment with be one session per week, from 7:30am to 12:30pm on Sundays, with occasional weeks off, for which reasonable notice should be given. The church sometimes hosts other events which require a verger, and the role holder will be preferentially offered these opportunities. This engagement is offered on a self-employed basis and does not constitute a contract of employment. The Verger is responsible for their own tax and National Insurance contributions.
An enhanced DBS will be required for this role – St Saviour’s can make the DBS application on your behalf if you do not currently hold one.
The Diocese of London is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults through the use of the Safer Recruitment practice guidance. This role is subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
