About The Role

We are a vibrant, diverse and predominantly Black-majority parish in North London, whose identity is inherently Catholic and Charismatic. We value the full richness and beauty of the Catholic tradition alongside prayer, openness to the Holy Spirit and a desire to see lives transformed through the Gospel.

We are a warm and welcoming multigenerational congregation of around 50 people, drawn from the many cultures and communities that make up Upper Edmonton. We have a strong sense of identity and belonging, established links with our local primary school and a committed people of God.

As we celebrate 120 years since the consecration of our church, we are looking towards the future with faith, hope and expectation. We are particularly excited by the opportunities to strengthen our ministry with children, young people and families, deepen our community engagement and grow our life of prayer and discipleship.

We are looking for a Vicar who is:
• Deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition, with a love for sacramental worship, prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit,
• A gifted preacher and teacher, able to communicate the Christian faith with warmth, clarity and relevance to people of all ages,
• A collaborative and relational leader, able to nurture lay ministry, recognise gifts and build a shared vision for the future,
• Passionate about mission and community, with a heart for children, young people, families and those who may feel distant from the Church,
• Comfortable ministering in a diverse, multicultural and predominantly working-class context, with a genuine desire to listen, build relationships and serve our local community.

St John’s sits within a community experiencing significant change and opportunity. The regeneration and development of Meridian Water and the arrival of Meridian Water Station in 2019 is bringing new homes, new residents and new opportunities to the wider area. We are seeking a Vicar who will help us respond confidently to this changing context, ensuring that St John’s continues to be a visible, welcoming and prayerful presence at the heart of its community.

We are not simply looking for someone to maintain what already exists. We are praying for a priest who will help us discern God’s call for the next chapter of St John’s, building on our 120-year history while helping us to grow in faith, deepen our discipleship and reach the generations who will shape the future of Upper Edmonton.
