About The Role

Our vision is for the people of North London to encounter Jesus, become like him, and change the world.

This is a rare opportunity for an operational leader to join our Senior Leadership Team at a genuinely pivotal moment. As Director of Operations and Governance, you will provide strategic oversight across finance, HR, facilities, information systems, and compliance — and you will lead the implementation of a new governance framework across our growing family of church plants. You will not be working behind the scenes. You will be in the room where significant decisions are made, trusted to help St Bs run with both ambition and integrity.

We are looking for someone who brings operational rigour and genuine Christian conviction in equal measure, along with a conviction that good governance helps organisations flourish. Someone who is energised by the scale of what we are attempting, and who wants to give their best professional years to something that matters eternally, not just organisationally. Someone who is keen to help lead, develop strategy and roll up their sleeves when needed.

You may never have worked in a church before. That is fine. What we cannot teach is the combination of strategic clarity, operational discipline, and deep personal faith that this role requires — and if that description fits you, we would love to hear from you.

1. To serve on the Senior Leadership Team, and to work collaboratively with
the Vicar, other Senior Leaders and ministry leaders, the Trustee Board
(PCC) and its sub-committees, and church plants’ Mission Initiative
Councils helping St Bs to thrive and fulfil its vision.

2. To champion good governance, implement the new governance structure
for church plants, and ensure the PCC and its subcommittees are able to
govern effectively and efficiently across all areas of church life.

3. To take a lead in the management and care of the operations team, helping
to develop, promote and champion a healthy staff culture and a cohesive
sense of team.

4. To support the leadership of the whole staff team in a similar way.

5. Alongside the Vicar and other Senior Leaders, to provide strategic direction,
implementation and tactical support for all church operations,
administration, and ad hoc projects, facilitating the necessary leadership
and staff planning discussion.

6. To be responsible for and provide leadership to all areas of church and
charity operations: people, finance, buildings & facilities, legal,
communications, business and risk.

7. To continually develop effective, efficient, and flexible administrative
processes, and robust and appropriate structures for leadership,
management, and governance (including statutory compliance).

8. To oversee the church building development project and the staff/team
leading this work.

9. To be responsible for compliance with all statutory and regulatory
requirements from finance (with the Treasurer and Finance Coordinator) to
data to Health and Safety and insurance (with the Facilities Manager and
Fabric Committee).

In partnership with the Vicar, the Director of Operations and Governance will
help steer the mission activities of the church to further realise its vision whilst
maintaining a firm foundation of operational efficiency and effectiveness,
ensuring the core of St Bs remains strong enough to support ongoing church
planting activities.

Equal Opportunities

The Diocese of London is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) and disabled people are currently under-represented among our clergy and workforce, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.
