About The Role

St Barnabas is a vibrant, multicultural, charismatic evangelical church in North Finchley, and we’re at an exciting moment in our story — growing in numbers, planting new churches, and seeing people encounter Jesus and be transformed by him.

We’re looking for an experienced pastor or ministry leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Director of Disciple-Making and Leadership Development. This is a movement-building role at the heart of who we are: shaping the culture through which people grow in faith, and building the pathways through which the next generation of leaders are identified, formed, and released. You’ll combine theological depth with strategic clarity, bring proven experience in disciple-making and leadership development, and be a gifted communicator who can nurture and release leaders at every stage.

We welcome applications from both clergy and lay people, from within (as a locally supported role) or outside the Church of England.

This role is open to an ordained (locally supported clergy) or lay (£40-45,000 salary) person. Please see Terms of Appointment inside the Job Pack.

The Diocese of London is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults through the use of the Safer Recruitment practice guidance. This role is subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.

The Director of Disciple-Making and Leadership Development is a senior leadership role at the heart of the life and future of St Barnabas. This is a unique opportunity to shape the disciple-making culture of a growing, resource church at a significant moment in its development. Our desire is to see a disciple-making movement started here at St Bs, and the postholder is integral to leading this ministry. They will have the opportunity to influence not only St Barnabas, but also a wider network of church plants and leaders across North London. This post has been created in response to both opportunity and need. As the church continues to grow in size, complexity, and missional reach—including through the development of church plants—it is essential that equal attention is given to the depth, maturity, and sustainability of our community. We are therefore seeking a person who will lead the shaping of a clear, coherent, and Spirit-led culture of disciple making, and who will build pathways through which leaders can be identified, formed, and released.

This role combines theological depth, pastoral oversight, and strategic leadership. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing the church’s approach to disciple-making across all ages and stages of faith, while also developing intentional structures for leadership development—from emerging leaders through to those taking on significant responsibility within St Barnabas or being sent to serve elsewhere.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director will contribute to the overall vision, direction, and spiritual leadership of the church, working closely with the Vicar and other senior staff. They will also play a key role in ensuring that the culture of St Barnabas remains rooted in prayer, shaped by Scripture, and open to the work of the Holy Spirit. St Barnabas is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All staff are expected to share this commitment.

Equal Opportunities

The Diocese of London is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community.
