Missional Housing Bond

This bond will enable us to provide decent homes for those working to demonstrate the compassion of Christ in some of the most deprived communities in London.

It has been most encouraging to see how our mission and ministry in London has expanded over recent years and as we prepare to launch our Capital Vision 2020, looking at more ways we can serve our Lord Jesus Christ in our great world city, it has become obvious that housing key workers is an increasing challenge for us.

Through this new Bond and in partnership with other Christian organisations we are looking to raise £2m of social investment to support the mission of the church. It will enable us to buy and provide decent homes at below-market rents for those working to demonstrate the compassion of Christ in some of the most deprived communities in London.

Although this is primarily a social investment the bond also provides a moderate return (1 – 2% pa). Individuals and parishes can invest £5,000 or more as part of the good stewardship of their resources. Please may I ask that you bring this Bond to the attention of your PCC and members of your church for prayerful consideration? You can find out more here.

We have been looking at various opportunities to supplement our Common Fund giving over the coming years and this Bond is one of the five ways that have been identified:

  • The Bishop of London’s Mission Fund (BLMF)
  • Innovative ways of funding additional stipendiary posts
  • Funding specifically for training more ordinands
  • A fund for building new churches
  • The Missional Housing Bond

We rejoice in a God who is so generous that he gave us his Son and I am so grateful to many of you, individuals and parishes, who have mirrored that generosity in supporting the work of the Gospel both at home and abroad. This is one of the important ways we are able to take seriously our Lord’s command to be salt and light in our society.
