The vote in the General Synod on the measure was carried by the required two-thirds majority in the three constituent parts of the Synod: the House of Bishops, the House of Clergy and the House of Laity.
The annual event, now in its fourth year, raises money for the restoration of heritage buildings. Participants are sponsored to visit as many historic places of worship as possible, either walking, by bike or on public transport. As well as raising money for the upkeep of these beautiful buildings, participants are guided to the best routes and walks for discovering the hidden treasures of the city.
At the invitation of Andy Rider, Rector at Christ Church Spitalfields, the new evening service was set up by the Revd Darren Wolf and the Revd Phil Williams, both now curates at Christ Church Spitalfields.
Following a successful fundraising campaign by the Ecclesiological Society, Butterfield's tomb in Tottenham Cemetery has been restored to honour him and his contribution to church-building in the Diocese of London and elsewhere.
