About The Role

Bow Church is a vibrant community seeking out the abundant life of following Jesus, encountering the Spirit and growing in the Bible – and helping others in Bow to come, belong, serve, give and grow within that story.

We’re looking for an Operations Coordinator to work closely with the Rector and other leaders in supporting the day-to-day life, ministry and mission of our church community.

This varied role includes coordinating the practical rhythms of church life, maintaining the systems, communication and organisation that enable the life of the church to flourish, helping oversee our buildings, events and governance, and supporting volunteers, ministry leaders and staff.

The role would suit someone who enjoys helping people, systems and activities work well together.

This is a flexible permanent role of three days per week (21 hours), including some Sundays and occasional evenings as part of the normal rhythm of church life.

There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the postholder to be a practising Christian under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

The Operations Coordinator will help support the day-to-day life, ministry and mission of our church community. Core responsibilities include:

1. Ministry Support
a) Working closely with the Rector and other leaders, coordinate the practical rhythms and activities that support the day-to-day life of Bow Church.
b) Maintain the systems, communication and organisation that enable the ministry and mission of the church to flourish.
c) Support newcomers in connecting into the life of the church and finding ways to belong, participate and grow within the community.

2. Buildings, Events & Facilities
a) Help oversee the day-to-day functioning, organisation and operational readiness of church buildings and spaces, including set-up, purchasing, practical problem-solving and work with contractors to ensure repairs, servicing and maintenance are undertaken.
b) Coordinate the planning and practical arrangements for church events and occasional offices (baptisms, weddings, funerals), helping ensure spaces, volunteers, equipment and communication are appropriately organised and supported.
c) Coordinate the day-to-day administration and practical arrangements connected to the hire of church buildings to private individuals, organisations and community groups, helping ensure good communication and appropriate use of church spaces.

3. Finance, HR & Governance
a) Work with the Treasurer and others to support the day-to-day financial administration of the church, including expenses and related processes.
b) Support recruitment, induction and aspects of staff and volunteer administration, helping ensure these are well organised, appropriately coordinated and followed through.
c) Help maintain financial information, organisational policies, procedures and other key documentation, supporting the preparation of reports and information where needed, and ensuring important reviews and updates are not overlooked.

4. Team, Volunteer & Pastoral Support
a) Help foster a healthy and supportive culture amongst volunteers, ministry leads and staff, encouraging clear communication, shared responsibility and positive patterns of participation.
b) Recognise and respond appropriately to the relational and pastoral dimensions of church life, including listening well, noticing concerns and helping connect people to appropriate support where needed.
c) Support the safeguarding culture and safer working practices of the church by following appropriate procedures, maintaining required training and contributing to a culture in which concerns are taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

Essential:
• An active Christian faith, together with enthusiasm for the vision, values and culture of Bow Church, and the ability to embody these in the day-to-day life of the church.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan ahead, coordinate effectively and help move things forward, balancing day-to-day tasks with an awareness of wider church priorities and rhythms.
• Experience working with financial information and administrative systems and supporting recruitment, induction and staff and volunteer administration, including an ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across a diverse church community and contribute to a kind and participatory team culture.
• Good judgement, with the ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and know when to seek advice or involve others.

Desirable:
• Experience of working within a church, charity or other volunteer-led organisation.
• Familiarity with governance, reporting or compliance processes within an organisation.
• Experience working closely with volunteers and supporting volunteer-led operations
• Familiarity with the life of a Church of England church.
• Experience of using common planning, communication and presentation tools such as Google Workspace, ChurchSuite, MailChimp and Slack.
