Palestine Action prosecutions, facial recognition AI, trust in the ECHR and the prospect of mandatory ID are but the latest contentious flashpoints in the wrangling of rights in the UK. Akiko Hart looks at the heat of the arguments. She is Director of Liberty, the organisation that challenges injustice, defends freedom and campaigns to make sure everyone is treated fairly.
Liberty, the Council for Civil Liberties, was formed to defend ‘the whole spirit of British freedom’ at a meeting in the Vestry Hall at St Martin in the Fields on 22 February 1934. We are thrilled to host this Liberty Lecture as part of our 300th anniversary programme.
