Director for Ministry for the Kensington Area appointed as Archdeacon of Dorking

It was announced today that the Revd Martin Breadmore will take up the position of Archdeacon of Dorking in the Diocese of Guildford.

Martin Breadmore is currently the Director for Ministry for the Kensington Area of the Diocese of London, a position which he has held since 2010. As the Diocesan lead for training after ordination he has been committed to ensuring that curacies enable training incumbents and curates to flourish in their ministry together.

Before moving to his current role in the Diocese of London, he was Vicar of St Patrick’s Wallington in the Diocese of Southwark for almost nine years. Martin is also familiar with Guildford, having previously served as associate minister of St Paul’s Camberley for more than four years.

Commenting on his appointment, Martin said:

“I am delighted, daunted and humbled to have been called to serve God as the next Archdeacon of Dorking. The Diocese of Guildford is in an exciting time of transition and I look forward to playing my part in the outworking of the vision of Transforming Churches, Transforming Lives.  I recognise that I have much to learn in this new role but I pray that we can work together to declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

The Bishop of Kensington, the Rt Revd Dr Graham Tomlin, said:

“Martin has been a wonderfully supportive and valued colleague to me and to many others in the Kensington Area. He has guided many ordinands through the process of discerning their calling over the years he has been Director of Ministry here, and always done that with care, thoughtfulness and wise judgment. He has also been a great support to the many curates and other clergy who have served here too. He will be hugely missed and we wish him, Monica and Joshua God’s richest blessings as they move to the diocese of Guildford.”

The Archdeaconry of Dorking is a diverse and vibrant area, covering the boroughs of Epsom and Ewell, Runnymede, Woking, Elmbridge, part of Reigate and Banstead and most of the district of Mole Valley.

The Revd Martin Breadmore will be licensed as Archdeacon of Dorking at a service in Guildford Cathedral.
