Over 70 lay leaders from across the church spectrum gathered on Saturday 24th September at Kings House, the home of KXC in Kings Cross, for the ‘Stepney Church conference’.

Mirjam Ngoy-Verhage, the newly appointed discipleship lead for the diocese of London, gave a keynote speech on being ‘Confident disciples in a turbulent world’.
After coffee and cookies people chose between 4 seminars: ‘Church planting in my backyard’, ‘Money and Mission do work’, ‘Growing the Church younger’ and ‘Going deeper in confident discipleship’.

Mirjam Ngoy-Verhage said:

“It was great to be gathered with lay leaders from across the Stepney area and be encouraged in our personal discipleship and respective ministries.”

During the question-time session chaired by Dean of Mission and conference organiser Andy Rider, the Bishop of Stepney said she wanted to see a growing culture of hospitality and generosity across our 65 churches in East London. This conference typified and inspired just that.

Katie O’Conor, speaker and diocesan Children’s Ministry Support Worker, said:

It was wonderful to be part of the Stepney conference. To see so many lay people gathered, excited to learn together about discipleship and how we can grow the church across our corner of London.

As attendees left at lunchtime there was a chorus of requests for further such conferences.
