For Lent 2023, the Bishops of London Diocese are hosting five online sessions exploring ancient ways of Christian prayer that are still relevant today and can help us spend time in the presence of God.
Sessions take place on Tuesday evenings during Lent, from 7.30-8.30pm on the following dates:
- 28th February, The Examen
- 7th March, Lectio Divina
- 14th March, Centring Prayer
- 21st March, Imaginative Contemplation
- 28th March, Visio Divina (Praying with Pictures)
The evening will be opened and closed with a short liturgy by one of our Bishops. The prayer practice will be introduced and we will have a go at the practice together. A time of optional sharing will be offered at the end for those who wish to reflect on the practice with others.
Everyone is welcome. You can attend some or all sessions.
Hand-outs and a recording of each of the sessions will be made available for use in churches and small groups.
Automatic captioning will be enabled for the live sessions and edited and included on the recordings. There is the option of dialling in by phone during live sessions for those without Internet access (audio only).
Please do reach out to our Discipleship Enabler Mirjam Ngoy-Verhage if you would like more information and you can register and book places for you or your church here.
How can churches join in?
There are different ways churches could join in with this Lent offering:
1. Encourage people in your church to register and join in with the online sessions individually
2. Join in as a church on a Tuesday evening and hold your own small group conversation reflecting on the prayer practice afterwards, whether online or in person, using the hand-outs provided
3. Watch the recording of the session and have small groups discussion on a different night of the week, using the hand-outs provided. We will aim to have the recording of the Tuesday session available by 6pm on Wednesday evening the day after the session

If you would like to submit a short video (1-2minutes) introducing yourself, where you’re from and describing the practice that’s currently helping you encounter God’s presence in your life then please go for it and send to communications@london.anglican.org
