Columbia Road may be more widely known for its famous Sunday flower market, but for every Wednesday in December it attracts Londoners for a very different reason – its special Christmas carol services.

Thousands of Londoners have attended the celebration over the years, in the build up to Christmas.

The carols are run by St Peter’s Bethnal Green, with the church’s upright piano wheeled out onto Columbia Road for renditions of Hark! The herald angels sing, O little town of Bethlehem, and We three Kings, amongst other festive favourites.

On Wednesday 7th December, BBC London joined in the festivities, broadcasting Archdeacon of Charing Cross The Ven Adam Atkinson conducting of a superlative rendition of ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High.’ Revd Adam told BBC London that it is the first year post-Covid that the carols have taken place, making it a “really special” occasion.
