Following the translation of the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE to become the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Diocese of London is currently in a period of transition known as a ‘Vacancy in See’.

Acting Leadership during the Vacancy

During this interim period, the Rt Revd Dr Emma Ineson, Bishop of Kensington, is serving as the Acting Bishop of London.

Bishop Emma oversees the spiritual and pastoral leadership of the Diocese, supported by the London College of Bishops. In addition to her responsibilities as Bishop of Kensington, she is also the Acting Area Bishop for the Two Cities.

The Search for the 135th Bishop of London

The process to appoint the next Bishop of London is a prayerful and consultative journey involving the Diocese, the national Church, and the Crown.

Current Status

Discernment & Consultation the Vacancy in See Committee is currently working on the Statement of Needs. This document, informed by over 1,000 contributions from across our parishes and communities, will outline the unique characteristics of the diocese, its challenges and opportunities, and the qualities, gifts, and experience we would like to see in the next Bishop.
