ENSEMBLE: DETAILS
In 2013 David Smart approached the UK National Charity ‘Help for Heroes’ to discuss forming a military-style band which would assist with the fundraising activities of the charity via the band’s musical performances, as well as becoming a positive PR vehicle for the charity.
David is himself a former member of the Armed Forces having served as a musician in the Household Division with the Life Guards Band of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. He is the Founder and Conductor of the Heroes Band and has received the attestation that, ‘he demonstrates admirable integrity, knowledge, dedication, focus and brings a great deal to the symphonic wind band world’.
In its short history the band has performed at major events overseas including Italy, Gibraltar, and the South of France, as well as events in and around London, including the RHS Chelsea Flower Show since 2018 and performances in theatre productions at Sadlers Wells.
Since the Bands first performance in May 2014 it has strived to achieve and deliver entertaining concerts to the highest possible musical standard. As a result of that approach it quickly received accolades from far and wide around the globe, with performances “being comparable to its military counterparts”.
