You are warmly invited to the Diocese of London’s Standing in the Gap Training.  This training is for anyone involved in a community ministry or social action project within a church context.

In response to prolonged economic challenges in London, diocesan churches are observing much higher levels of need at community ministries today, than 5, 10 or 20 years ago. Many guests present with multiple complex needs including poor mental health.

Through a combination of group discussion,  real-life case studies, and teaching from practitioners, this new training addresses how church staff and volunteers can stay physically safe and emotionally well in challenging social action / community ministry contexts.

The training content will focus on the key themes of:

o Staying emotionally healthy & avoiding burnout

o Maintaining healthy boundaries & managing expectations

o Recognising complex needs & signposting

o Dealing with challenging behaviours & de-escalating

o Staying safe

This is an all day, in-person training, and lunch will be provided. There will be a mixture of content via video and in person discussion and reflection.

The building is fully accessible; however please let us know on the booking form for any needs you have as we are keen to ensure this training is accessible for all.

This will be the first iteration of a training that we expect to run multiple times within the Diocese of London. Attendees will be asked to provide feedback at the end of the session, to allow us to update and improve the training where helpful  /necessary.
