The Reverend Sheenagh Burrell has been awarded the Cross of St Augustine for services to the Anglican Communion –

‘for her tireless dedication to the Diocese of London companion link with Mozambique and Angola (ALMA)’

Sheenagh was presented with the cross at a service on Sunday 3 March, at St Paul’s Ealing where she is Assistant Pastor.

Sheenagh Burrell has been part of the ALMA story for 25 years, working with an increasing number of parishes and dioceses, from two dioceses to twelve across what is now IAMA (the Anglican Province for Angola and Mozambique).

Working with with successive Bishops and Archdeacons,  Sheenagh has spearheaded Diocese of London Lent appeals every other year, raising money for projects across Mozambique and Angola.

As ALMA coordinator Sheenagh has worked with tireless dedication, through difficult seasons such as Covid and despite her own cancer. She has supported volunteers and parish representatives, written newsletters, posted on social media, and aimed to place ALMA as a crucial relationship in the life of the Diocese of London.

She has welcomed pilgrims, organised countless visits, written briefing papers, and hosted people in her own home.

During Bishop Rob Wickham’s seven years as Chair of ALMA, he visited Mozambique three times and Angola once. For every visit, Sheenagh guided him through the process of visas, itinerary, briefing and feedback… this award is a fitting tribute to a saint, dedicated to companionship in a time of increasing social fragmentation.
