A brief summary of actions not covered in previous drop-ins can be read below:

Brief notes of discussions:

  • The dates for next year’s drop-in sessions have been set and should have been received.
  • The Home Office’s Places of Worship Protective Security Scheme is now open for applications.  Through this scheme, parishes can apply for fully funded physical security measures.  There are some drop-in sessions to talk through the process and give examples of good applications.  Closing date is 8th December.  Drop-in sessions are 10/12 Nov and 2 Dec.  PSOs will be emailed the information to circulate to the relevant person in their parish.
  • If someone has nothing with their address on then they can ask their bank to post them a letter, which is usually free.
  • If there are child servers robing in a room with, for example an adult choir, the adult choir should be DBS checked unless it can arranged for them to robe different times.  A risk assessment will be required for this.
  • Even if someone has taken safeguarding training in their secular context, Church of England safeguarding leadership training should still be taken because of the faith context.
  • DBS overseas check contact details for letters of good standing.
  • Where there are volunteers who are refugees and their home country cannot be contacted as it would put them or their families at risk, an individual risk assessment should be carried out and signed off by the PCC.
  • Thirty-one eight have some guidance for safer recruitment of refugees.
  • If someone needs to be signposted to support lines, suggest they contact their local 24/7 crisis line.  If you feel someone’s life is at immediate risk please call 999.
