A brief summary of actions not covered in previous drop-ins can be read below:
Brief notes of discussions:
- If a parish rents out a space to another church a licence under faculty will be required, which will include viewing their safeguarding policy. Consecrated land cannot generally be hired out, but an archdeacon can advise on whether a space is consecrated.
- Information on what is required for working with children is available on the Diocese of London and National Church web pages.
- There was some conversation about how to support people living with dementia. It could be helpful to talk to the individual, about what support they have from friends, families and local authorities. A risk assessment could be good place to start to identify how to safely support a person in church.
- Risk assessment of buildings – best practice to have two people in a room for a private conversation. Perhaps in a space away from other people but in view so you can see but not hear conversations. Ideally conversations should take place in a place that is visible where possible.
- There are various church building risk assessment forms on the Ecclesiastical web pages
