Support our Anglican partners in Mozambique as severe flooding displaces communities and damages homes, schools, and churches. Through ALMA, the Diocese of London is calling for prayer and donations to fund urgent relief and recovery, and to stand in practical solidarity with affected dioceses.

In 1 Corinthians we are reminded that when one part of the Body of Christ suffers, we all suffer together. Today that suffering is being felt acutely in Mozambique, where severe flooding has created a major humanitarian emergency across the south and central regions of the country. Families have lost homes, livelihoods, and access to basic necessities, and many are still waiting for safe shelter.

This crisis directly affects dioceses linked to us through ALMA, the Angola London Mozambique Association, the long-standing partnership between the Diocese of London and Anglican dioceses in Angola and Mozambique. Through ALMA we share prayer, ministry, learning, and mutual support. These are not distant strangers, but trusted partners and friends in Christ who are now facing urgent need.

Weeks of torrential rain and overflowing rivers have overwhelmed natural and man-made barriers, causing rivers such as the Limpopo to rise more than three metres above flood alert levels. Towns including Chókwè and Guijá have been largely submerged, and key road and rail routes have been cut off. Reports indicate that hundreds of thousands of people have been affected, with many thousands displaced and widespread damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure.

Our ALMA Partners Are Responding

Churches within our partner dioceses in Mozambique are serving as emergency shelters for families who have lost homes and possessions. Classrooms and church buildings are now places of refuge, with local congregations sharing what they have so that others can be safe.

Local Anglican churches are often the first point of support in both rural and hard-to-reach communities. Clergy and lay leaders are providing shelter, coordinating supplies, and caring for people who are distressed and exhausted. They are responding faithfully and sacrificially, but resources are stretched and needs continue to grow.

The Rt Revd Lusa Nsenga-Ngoy, Bishop of Willesden, said:

The suffering caused by the flooding in Mozambique calls us to a deep and prayerful response. Through our long-standing partnership with the Anglican dioceses of Mozambique, we know these are not distant communities, but sisters and brothers in Christ. I am deeply moved by the courage and faith shown by local churches as they shelter the displaced and care for the most vulnerable. I urge us across the Diocese of London to stand alongside them in prayer, generosity, and practical solidarity at this critical time.

Our partnership through ALMA means we stand with one another not only in times of celebration, but also in moments of crisis. This is part of our shared life in Christ.

How You Can Help

ALMA has launched an emergency JustGiving appeal to support flood relief through the Anglican dioceses in Mozambique.

Donations will help provide essential food, clean water, medical and sanitation supplies, temporary shelter support, and the clean-up and repair of schools. Funds will also support early recovery for families whose livelihoods have been washed away.

Please give if you are able through JustGiving.

Please Pray

Please pray for all those displaced by the floods, for families separated from home and security, and for those still waiting to reach safety. Pray for clergy, lay leaders, and volunteers who are serving their communities day by day under great strain. We ask your prayers especially for Bishop Carlos and all who are leading the response locally.

Through ALMA, the Diocese of London stands alongside our partners in Mozambique. In Christ we respond with compassion, generosity, and prayer.
