It was announced in June 2025 that the Rt Revd Dr Joanne Grenfell would step down from her role as Bishop of Stepney, to be the next Diocesan Bishop of Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
The See of Stepney Advisory Group was formed in August for the appointment process.
The Rt Revd Karen Gorham, Suffragan Bishop of Sherborne is seconded to London for part of her week as the acting see of Stepney.
