The Parish Safeguarding Officer is responsible for ensuring and monitoring delivery of Safeguarding training to all who require it.

There are three levels of core training:

To check which level you’re required to complete, please look at the required attendees on the Safeguarding Learning & Development Framework here.

The Basic Awareness and Foundation courses can be completed by any member of the congregation, to raise awareness and create a culture of support and vigilance in the Church.

Note: All Church Officers (paid and volunteer), staff,  bell ringers and anyone going on to complete any other safeguarding learning pathway are required to take the Basic Awareness of safeguarding training.

The highest level of training completed should be completed every three years, so if safeguarding Leadership has been completed there is no requirement to renew either Basic Awareness of Foundation training.  Similarly if Foundation level safeguarding has been completed, this will need to be renewed every three years, but Basic Awareness need not be renewed.

The other training pathways such as:

Modern Day Slavery

Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

Safer Recruitment and People Management

Should all be completed every three years, regardless of which level of the core pathways you take.
