Bishop Rob Wickham and Archbishop Justin Welby travelled to Mozambique this month, to celebrate the inauguration of the new province IAMA (Igreja Anglicana de Mocambique e Angola). In 2021 Mozambique and Angola become an autonomous Province of the Anglican Communion, having been part of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa since 1893.
The Diocese of London has partnered with Mozambique and Angola since 1998.
The below tweets were shared during last week’s visit, and show not only the celebrations but also a visit to Pemba and Chiure in North Mozambique to meet with people who’ve been traumatised by conflict.
The Diocese of London’s 2023 Lent Appeal will raise money to train leaders in Mozambique who can provide pastoral care and support for those with trauma. More information about the appeal will be shared with our churches in the new year.

Hearing the stories of those personally affected by the trauma of conflict changes you. Thank goodness for safe spaces like St Mary Magdalen in Pemba, who provide love, support and basic provisions for those displaced in Cabo Delgado. @ALMALondonD @TW11Parish @dioceseoflondon pic.twitter.com/H3aCt1zABf

In Pemba, Mozambique, where I'm with govt officials, Catholic & Muslim leaders and young peacemakers to hear first-hand how conflict is inflicting terrible trauma on innocent people. Like these displaced mothers whose babies were killed. pic.twitter.com/Upusw2tSJi
