The two long-established, vibrant and welcoming Methodist Churches in St Albans are looking to reach elderly people across the city.

Job Title: Anna Chaplain for St. Albans (funded by the Methodist churches)
Location: Largely at home but using both church buildings when necessary
Employer: Employed by Hatfield Road Methodist Church and under the supervision of the Minister in pastoral charge of Marlborough Road Methodist Church
 Full time (35 hours per week) fixed term contract for 5 years
 Salary range £23,300 – £27,300 per annum, depending on experience
 Flexible working hours will be necessary, including some evenings and weekends, but subject to at least two full days free of responsibilities each week
 25 days leave per annum, in addition to Bank Holidays
An Anna Chaplain, as authorised by the Bible Reading Fellowship (Gift of Years Initiative), you will work in partnership with ministers, a management committee and lay volunteers to help meet the spiritual needs of older people. This will include those whose independence and/or social engagement are challenged owing to their advancing years.

You will:
 Offer spiritual support to older people who are living at home, in care homes and sheltered housing complexes, their relatives and the staff who look after them.
 Promote the spiritual welfare of older people at home, in the Church and in the local and wider community.
 Expand the reach of the Anna Chaplaincy by recruiting, organising, training and encouraging a cohort of volunteers, the Anna Friends.

The role will include working ecumenically with churches, with existing groups and in the wider community, in addition to identifying new opportunities for work and outreach. Initially, this will need to be carried out within the context of Covid-19 restrictions.
Lay or ordained can apply.
Appointment will be subject to a medical, and satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS checks). The post is also subject to an occupational requirement that the holder be a practising Christian under Part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010).
