Central London Pastoral Assistants Scheme 2020-21
This is an extraordinary opportunity to spend a year as a Pastoral Assistant in central London. Our scheme works across three churches – St Matthew’s Westminster, St Peter’s Eaton Square and St Dunstan’s Stepney and seeks to offer a wide experience of engagement and ministry in three very different settings, which embrace areas of considerable wealth and real deprivation.
The Pastoral Assistants engage fully with the worshipping life of the churches, with opportunity for serving, leading services and preaching. At the heart of each church’s life is the daily round of worship – Morning Prayer, Eucharist and Evening Prayer which provides a disciplined framework for the ministry of the clergy and Pastoral Assistants.
In addition to the regular liturgical, pastoral, teaching and community life of the churches there is opportunity to engage creatively with our church schools which have very strong links with each of the parishes.
The Pastoral Assistants participate in a monthly vocational gathering of Interns and Pastoral Assistants in the Two Cities, and undertake a time of regular reflective theology with a priest mentor. There is at least one annual residential conference for clergy and Pastoral Assistants of the three parishes to explore questions of vocation, and there is also an opportunity for an annual retreat.
The posts are particularity suited for those exploring the possibility of ordained ministry in the Church of England. All three parishes are fully supportive of the ordination of women to the priesthood.
A successful DBS check will be required for appointment to this role.
In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 there is a genuine occupational requirement that the post holder is a practising Christian.
Applications are invited from interested men and women. Further details and an application form can be found at www.pastoralassistants.com.
