About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Diocese of London’s priority of a more racially-just Church, and we are looking for a collaborative leader who has vision to see change, tenacity to deliver and the confidence to challenge and inspire. You will also be experienced in empowering and equipping those around you in an area where many are lacking in confidence.

In this important leadership role you will, in collaboration with others, assist us to:

With the support and commitment of the London College of Bishops, foster a culture within the Diocese of London that is built on love, fairness, equity, justice, collaboration, and integrity
Facilitate learning that allows for greater understanding of the injustice and impact of racism
Break down mental, cultural, and institutional barriers that exist within the diocesan structures, policies, and processes to engender true race equality
Give greater attention to ‘truth telling’ that seeks to address the historical legacy of slavery and challenge systemic racism
The Lead Bishop on Racial Justice, the Bishop of Edmonton, will work closely with you and others on the delivery and implementation of this strategic priority. Bishop Anderson says: ’We are at a pivotal moment to commit our resources into tangible action, prayerfully enabling the Church to become more racially just. If you would like to join us in this pilgrimage of justice and have the passion, determination, and skill to undertake such a task, then please get in touch’.

Recognising the challenges of facilitating change in this area, you will be able to demonstrate resilience, patience and a willingness to engage with stakeholders across and at all levels of the Church to inspire the Diocese on a journey that will break new ground and create lasting impact.

The Diocese of London is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Equal Opportunities

The Diocese of London is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) and disabled people are currently under-represented among our clergy and workforce, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.
