Location: Service of Lamentation and Hope, via Zoom
This Lamentation is based on Psalm 30 verse 5 and Matthew 11 verses 28-30, and was written by Revd. Sandra McCalla for the online Service of Lamentation and Hope.
Your anger is but for a moment;
Your favour is for a lifetime.
But Lord we are tired…how much longer?
Where is the favour you promise us Lord?
How many lifetimes before you fulfil your promise?
We look to you, Lord Jesus,
We look to you King of the Universe And we lament
We lament because our young people are angry We lament because our priests are angry
We lament because we know why
We lament because part of the Body of Christ is infected
We lament because the Church we love bears a label that hurts us We lament when we hear that our Church is “institutionally racist”
And you tell us,
“Come to me all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens
And I will give you rest”
Lord we come to you because the burden we carry is too heavy Lord we come to you because these chains have held us captive Lord we come to you because our tongues have been shackled
And we fear speaking truth to power
Lord we come to you because in our silence we have colluded Lord we come to you because we want to thrive not just survive Lord we come to you…
You tell us,
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart And you will find rest for your souls”
We have taken up your yoke Lord
You called us Lord and we have answered
You called us Lord for a time like this
You called us Lord to use all our gifts into your service
And we have surrendered them all to be part of your body….
but they are not always seen…accepted. or appreciated
Are you sleeping Lord?
We have kept our hearts humble. we have waited
We have been gentle. we have waited
We are trying to rest in you.
When your Church does not reflect your love, we come back to you Lord
And you tell us
“My yoke is easy, and my burden is light”
But Lord like Habakkuk we ask…
“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen?”
If this is light…how can we bear heavy? If this is light…how can we bear heavy? If this is light…reveal yourself Lord?
We cry out to you Lord “heal your Church” We lament, we grieve, we weep
And we hear
Weeping may linger for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
