St Mary’s, Islington welcomes Reverend James Hughesdon as Vicar in the Stepney Area’s first online institution
Reverend James Hughesdon has been installed as Vicar at St Mary’s Islington. In a first for the Stepney Area, with the Registrar’s permission, the service was conducted virtually.
The Right Reverend Dr Joanne Woolway Grenfell, Bishop of Stepney, joined the service from her home whilst Reverend James Hughesdon was present at St Mary’s.
The service was conducted via Zoom and welcomed over 150 attendees. As part of the service the newly installed Vicar made the necessary oaths and declarations and also rang the church bell to signify the start of his ministry in the parish of St Mary Islington.
Revd James Hughesdon, Vicar of St Mary’s, Islington, said:
“I am both honoured and delighted to be the new Vicar at St Mary’s Islington. It’s a strange time to take up a new position but we have been made to feel so welcome by everyone and I’m excited to discover with the people of this church and this community all that God is calling us to.”
Later in the year St Mary’s will be holding a service of celebration to properly welcome James, his wife Caz and the family, as well as giving thanks for all that God has done and will do in the life of St Mary’s.
