St Margaret’s church in Edgware welcomes its new vicar
The Bishop of Edmonton, Rob Wickham, has joined the community and congregation at St Margaret’s, Edgware, for the licensing of the Reverend Sally Baily as Vicar. Also welcoming Sally were the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor David Longstaff, and the Deputy Lieutenant of Barnet, Martin Russell, as well as well-wishers and former parishioners from Sally’s previous post as curate at St Mary’s church in Chesham in the Diocese of Oxford.
Sally, who had a long and successful career in the City before being called to ordination, brings a variety of skills to the role. Having spent eighteen years working at the London Stock Exchange, she is well placed to minister to parishioners who commute to the City of London – as noted during the service by The Deputy Lieutenant. Her eventual role at the Exchange was Head of Broadcasting and Events, where she ran the Exchange’s successful TV studios and event management team, meaning she will bring substantial communications, commercial and organisational experience to St Margaret’s.
Music is also an extremely important part of Sally’s ministry. She is married to Hammad Baily, a professional musician from Pakistan, and together they have a band, Voice for Jesus, producing and performing multicultural Christian music both in the UK and Pakistan. Sally also has experience teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Sally’s skills makes her perfect for St Margaret’s, a multi-national all-age congregation seeking to be a ‘church without walls’ open to the high street in the bustling town centre of Edgware.
Reverend Sally Baily, newly licensed vicar of St Margaret’s Edgware, said:
“I’m delighted to have moved to Edgware and am very excited at the prospect of working together with church members to share God’s love with the local community.”
The Bishop of Edmonton, Rob Wickham, commented:
“Sally comes to Edgware with a host of gifts and skills. She is a woman of energy and creativity who is already powerfully discerning where God is already at work in her new community. She is both a wonderful addition to the Edgware Team, and also to the wider deanery, as we serve the people of West Barnet.”
