New Vicar for St Andrew’s Fulham Fields
Canon Guy Wilkinson has this week been installed as vicar at St Andrew’s, Fulham Fields, by the Bishop of Kensington, the Rt Revd Paul Williams. Over 200 parishioners and local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Frances Stainton, and Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh, joined the service to celebrate Guy’s installation.
The occasion also marked the opening of St Andrew’s new centre, which is to open its first class facilities for the use of the community. The centre will be available for everything from meals and fellowship for the homeless to parent and child groups to the local fruit and vegetable co-op. The centre will also be the seventh IntoUniversity hub, part of an initiative working with schools and families to raise local children’s educational aspirations.
Guy, who received a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to inter faith relations, was previously Archdeacon of Bradford and a parish priest in Birmingham, Guildford and Coventry.
Canon Guy Wilkinson said:
"I am delighted and privileged to become the next vicar of St Andrew’s, the parish church of this neighbourhood for the past 150 years, at a time when the church and community have invested in a renewed church and a new centre to provide wonderful facilities for the next century of serving the parish and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ."
Trevor Dawson, Churchwarden at St Andrew’s, Fulham Fields, said:
"We are very pleased to welcome Guy who will take forward St Andrew’s tradition of warmly welcoming everyone to our services and to all our social and community activities."
St Andrew’s new centre manager, Liz Wilson said:
"We hope that people and groups will come and see what we have on offer for activities, children’s parties, seminars and all the things that communities do and need space for".
