Hackney Choral launches new choir for teens in Stepney Area

The Hackney Senior Choir is for 12-18 year olds who love music and will provide opportunities like recording studio experiences.

With support from the Young Londoners Fund, 2019 saw the launch of a new choir for 12-18 year olds, which is currently recruiting young people who love music from local schools and the community. Launched for the Borough of Hackney, HSC aims to draw young people from secondary schools and the local community into the safe space of St Paul’s West Hackney church.

The organisation aims to share the English Choral Tradition with the children and young people of today, no matter their background. They aim to use music as a transformative tool in the lives of their members, and to show them the path forward in their lives.

“The music is both mesmerising and fun. I love it because it gives me a break from the real world, and I get to have a great time with friends who I don’t see every day.”

Member of Hackney Children’s Choir

As a member of the senior choir, you’ll have access to enriching experiences – like residential holiday schemes and the chance to make professional recordings in a studio. No prior experience with a musical instrument or even a familiarity with sheet music are needed to sign up, just a joy for song and a keen spirit!

Rehearsals run every Monday during school term times from 4.45-6.00pm, with an optional homework club (and free pizza) beforehand from 4.00-4.45pm.
