Free training on supporting children and youth through grief

The Diocese of London’s Children and Youth Support team will be running a free 3-hour workshop this week to equip those who may find themselves supporting young people and their families through loss of a loved one.

No two people grieve in the same way. In this time where support for children and young people is increasingly important, those who work or volunteer with them should feel confident and knowledgeable on how to support people during the grieving process.

The Diocese of London invites anyone who normally works or volunteers with children, youth or families nationally to join this online workshop covering five key areas of supporting people through grief.

The workshop will entail two 80-minute sessions, covering five areas:

  • Basic theory of loss and bereavement: understanding the terms and challenging our assumptions about how to grieve well
  • Lockdown: the effects, what losses children and youth might experience and how this will effect the process
  • The London Underground analogy: how the effects of grief/loss hit a person and affect their needs
  • Things you can do to practically help
  • Self-care and self-awareness when supporting others through grief

The session will use additional small group sessions at certain points to create a more comfortable environment for sharing from experience.

Join us on Thursday 23 April, 13:30-16:30

About the facilitator:

William Taylor is driven by his passion and purpose to support children and young people, especially through issues of loss. Having set up and successfully run LOSSuk, a charity mentoring young people for five years, Will went on to train as a counsellor, recognising that some of the issues the children and young people faced needed a higher level of support.

More recently Will now offers therapeutic, transformational coaching, supervision and training for those wanting to develop their understanding and clarity of themselves and the work they do.

The main session presentation will be recorded but not livestreamed outside of Zoom.
