Company of Servers’ London Chapter

Altar servers from across the Diocese have gathered in Pimlico for the second meeting of the London Chapter of the Company of Servers.

This event, hosted by Fr Matthew Catterick in the iconic 1860s Gothic revival church of St Saviour’s, saw a number of new members admitted to the group, which has now recruited almost 50 ‘companions’ in the three months since its launch. The group is posed for further growth and has announced that its AGM is to be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on 26 January 2013.

The focus of the meeting was ‘Serving through the Seasons’, with a discussion led by Fr Matthew. This was followed by presentations from Stephen Chamberlain of Christ Church with St Laurence, Brondesbury, and Cathie James of St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park, on the key services or seasons in the church calendar of Lent and Maundy Thursday. The meeting concluded with a discussion and a display of stoles in all the liturgical colours.

The Company of Servers seeks to offer an understanding of the interpretation of worship and liturgy; teaching the meaning of what servers do and encouraging development both practically and spiritually. Membership of the Company is open to all who serve at the altar and further details of upcoming events and January’s AGM can be obtained from the Chapter Secretary,e: london [at] companyofservers.org.
