Chrism Mass 2019

Chrism Mass at St Paul's

In the diocese of London there were two Chrism Masses this year. During these celebrations last week the Holy Oils were blessed, and were given out to priests and bishops for use over the next 12 months. The Holy Oils will be used by priests in baptism, anointing the sick and dying, and used by the bishop at confirmations, the ordinations of priests and in the consecrating of various sacred items.

The services were also a time for priests and bishops to reaffirmed their priestly vows made at ordination.

On Tuesday in Holy Week (16th April) the Bishop of Fulham met with 80 priests, deacons, LLM’s and 250 lay people from his parishes in London, Southwark and beyond, to celebrate his Chrism Mass.

Then on Maundy Thursday the Bishop of London, Sarah Mullally, met with hundreds of clergy from across the Diocese of London to celebrate at St Paul’s Cathedral.
