Bishop of Edmonton ordains seven new priests

New priests ordained by Bishop of Edmonton standing outside St Pancras Euston Road

Four men and three women were recently ordained priests at a service led by the Bishop of Edmonton.

The new priests were ordained at St Pancras Church, Euston Road, marking the first time that three female curates had been ordained in a single service in the Edmonton Area since the ordination of women as priests began in 1994 – an encouraging sign that more women are now responding to God’s call to be ordained to the priesthood.

The new priests represent a diverse ranges of experience, including nursing, teaching, the legal profession and financial services. They count among their number Adele Burgess who previously worked as a Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Lizzie Baughen who spent 25 years working as a nurse, and also as a senior pastor at Christ Church, Barnet where she ran a mid-week group for elderly worshippers, before deciding to join the clergy.

The Rt Revd Rob Wickham, Bishop of Edmonton, said of the new priests:

“It was a great joy to ordain our new clergy, in response to God’s call upon their lives. They are a remarkable group of dedicated individuals who will each draw upon their own unique skills and life experience in their new ministries. Their ordination gives me great hope as we continue to serve the 1.2 million people in the Edmonton Area of the Diocese of London.”
