An invitation to Chrism Eucharist 2022
All are warmly invited to St Paul’s Cathedral at 10.30am on Thursday 14 April, for the annual Chrism Eucharist.
What is the Chrism Eucharist?
Every year at the Chrism Eucharist on Maundy Thursday, an invitation is issued to all clergy and Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMs) from across the Diocese of London to renew their ordination and licensing promises.
It is a service that is held dear in many hearts, not just because of the extraordinary sight of seeing so many clergy gathering together to renew their vows, but because it comes just before Easter.
At this service, oils are blessed for use across the Diocese: the oil for the sick, anointing with the healing presence of Christ; the oil of baptism, anointing with the victory of Christ over sin and death to those He calls by name; the oil of chrism for anointing all who are baptized and confirmed with the sweet fragrance of Christ’s gospel.
The oils are given to the clergy and LLMs, who take them back to their parishes for use throughout the year.
