Only lay chaplains commissioned by the Area Bishop may serve in the hospitals of the Area. They are commissioned to their own hospital and to no other.
Ordained chaplains who work with lay chaplains have a responsibility to encourage
and support them in their ministry. This responsibility includes regular meetings
within the hospital concerned, where the work of ministry can be shared, and
attendance at meetings of the Lay Chaplaincy Management Group.
It is expected that lay chaplains will also have the support and encouragement
of their home parish.
