The Diocese does not supply gas fires for its houses because most, if not all,
now benefit from central heating.
Existing fires will be serviced annually, but should they have reached the en of their useful life, they will not be replaced.
Where a living flame gas fire is installed, then it must be installed by a registered CORGI installer and the correct ventilation provided. Our heating engineers and surveyors have been asked to make a special check, at the time of the annual maintenance service or quinquennial inspection, to see if the correct ventilation has been provided to any existing living flame gas fire. If inadequate, the occupier will be asked to meet the cost of carrying out the necessary improvements.
If occupiers sublet any rooms in their house, they are regarded as Landlords under Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994. As such they, and not the Diocese, are then responsible for the safety of any gas appliances in the sublet accommodation.
