Ministerial Review
MINISTERIAL REVIEW
- A Ministerial Review scheme operates throughout the
diocese. It includes clergy - non-stipendiary and stipendiary - who are licensed
in the diocese, together with Accredited Lay Ministers. Those in the first
year of Post Ordination Training have their own review process and join the
diocesan scheme in their second year after ordination or licensing.
- The scheme has two elements. The first is an annual
Consultant's Review, using a consultant chosen from a list of people,
lay and ordained, nominated for this work by the bishops. This is an opportunity
for the clergy to have a discussion in strict confidence with someone sympathetic
to their work, looking at how their ministry has developed over the past year
and how it might continue in the future. At the end of the discussion a brief
summary statement is agreed by the minister and the consultant, and sent by
the minister to the bishop as a record. Another paper, identifying possible
training and development needs, is sent to the Area CME Officer as a basis
for further discussion.
- The second element in the scheme is the Bishop's
Review. This focuses on the ministry of oversight which is proper to the
bishop, looking at the person's ministry in relation to the ministry of the
diocese. This review will normally take place every three years.
- The administration of the scheme happens in the episcopal
Areas, involving the bishop's office and the Area CME Officer. They will inform
clergy of the process for Ministerial Review. General enquiries about the
scheme may be addressed to the Bishop of London's Adviser for Ordained Ministry,
who is responsible to the bishops for its overall shape and direction.
