"Cover" for duty should normally be provided by an ordained deacon or priest of the Church of England. It is inappropriate for lay chaplains to carry the burden of responsibility for providing such cover.
It is customary in the Church of England for the local parish clergy to assist
the chaplain in providing cover. This is particularly important for part-time
chaplains or those who have no ordained colleague.
