"2012 is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share our faith in words and actions. London, our amazing city, will have the world even more on its doorstep. Imagine. Dream. Plan. Act. Respond. Mobilise for the Olympics!"
The Rt Revd Pete Broadbent, Bishop of Willesden
Diocese of London churches can get involved in mission during the 2012 Games in a wide variety of ways, whether they’ve got archery on their doorstep or the Olympic Park seems very far away. Key themes include outreach, hospitality, service, worship and prayer.
As Olympic Mobiliser, Elizabeth Harrison has been appointed to facilitate churches and church schools in getting involved with mission. She'll be looking to suggest good ideas, and work with churches and schools to provide some helpful resources.
First steps to take include:
Downloading 'Engaging with the Olympic and Paralympic Games - A guide for parishes', a leaflet which explains some ways to get involved.
Following Elizabeth's blog on Ministry Matters.
Registering with More than Gold, a temporary agency to help every church make the most of the Games, to indicate your interest in programmes and events. Gold Champions act as a representative and first point of contact for their church.
to find out what's going on in your area, or to discuss plans in your parish. This will help her to build up a picture of what's happening across the Diocese of London, and support you most effectively.
