A Shadwell based youth project showcased a new film this week in a bid to boost support for a new club aimed at young people living in East London.
The Cable Street Churches Youth Project has for the past six months been working with a small group of 10-15 year olds who are keen to start a new club that brings together a variety of young people within the local area.
Led by a 19 year old local volunteer, the young people have named the group 'Pic'n'Mix' and hope to raise awareness and support for a new club through the short film they have produced.
The film was made with funding from a joint initiative between the Diocese of London and the Children's Society in East London called the Go for Gold Awards. The award scheme provides financial grants to young people in the Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Islington areas to bring their ideas to life.
Pic'n'Mix hope the film that they have made will highlight the need for a youth club, raise awareness and generate voluntary and funding support within the local community.
Pic'n'Mix will showcase their film on Monday 25 February at St Mary's Church Hall, Shadwell with local Councillors, residents and organisations all in attendance.
The Bishop of Stepney, The Rt Revd Stephen Oliver said:
"This is a fantastic local initiative that is helping young people in Shadwell to bring their ideas to life. The Go for Gold Awards has allowed the Pic'n'Mix club to create a film, which will help highlight the need for an active youth club in this area. I wish them all the success for the future."
