New Area Dean for Islington

18/01/08

Last Sunday, the Archdeacon of Hackney, The Ven Dr Lyle Dennen, licensed the Revd Michael Learmouth as the new Area Dean of Islington Deanery in the Church of England.

In 2000, Michael was appointed Team Rector of the Barnsbury Team Ministry, and he will continue his works with these parishes. Additionally, as Area Dean for Islington, Revd Michael will work across the Islington area supporting and building relations with the clergy and parishes in the Church of England and the wider community.

Michael said:

“It is my intention to continue to support the Church of England clergy in the work they do within the Church, and also with the work they do for the wider community of Islington. I also hope to foster strong relations with other Christian denominations and with other faith groups”.

Welcoming Michael to his new position, the Bishop of Stepney, The Rt Revd Stephen Oliver said:

“Michael’s appointment to the position of Area Dean for the Islington Deanery will strengthen the presence of the Church of England in Islington. Michael will bring wide experience, pastoral care and good leadership to our work with the wider community.”
