The London Diocesan Advisory Committee has been refreshed for its next six years’ tenure so that it may offer the best advice possible to parishes in the Diocese.
The Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) exists to advise on church buildings and churchyards and works to them, whether that be a major extension, reordering the church interior or repairing the roof. The DAC's role includes giving advice to the Chancellor on granting permissions through the faculty system.
The first Full Committee meeting of the new DAC took place in October and was welcomed by the Bishop of London, the Diocesan Chancellor and General Secretary.
The new Committee consists of 30 members, including all the Diocese’s archdeacons and a clergy representative from each of the Episcopal areas, as well as lay members with specialist knowledge of church buildings, such as architects and architectural historians.
A range of technical assistance has been added to the Committee in the form of both members and non-member consultants. The areas of technical expertise represented include structural engineering, archaeology, mechanical services, clocks, organs and bells. The combination of these talents will enable the Committee both to support worship and mission and to help with appropriate care and conservation of the Diocese’s built heritage.
