Northolt’s popular ‘Soul in Northolt and Greenford’ youth activities returned for its fourth year with a carnival theme. Afternoon workshops of urban street dance, samba band, cricket and football, were on offer for 8-16 year-olds at the Dovetail Centre at St Joseph the Worker Church in Yeading Lane, Northolt.
Running from 12-4pm each day at the community centre, there were craft activities, indoor and outdoor games, a cafe with tasty food at low prices, and a ‘chill out area’. Tuesday 21 August saw the popular ‘Make me a Supermodel’ make up, fashion show and photo shoot for 11 to 16 year olds. A Karaoke evening was held on Wednesday evening.
Project chair the Rev Simon Winn said:
”What started as part of the London-wide ‘Soul in the City’ initiative in 204, aimed at restoring community spirit and hope, has snowballed.
“Last summer we welcomed 100 young people and many parents to the Dovetail Centre every day for professionally run activities and loads of fun. Many of the young people in our area don’t get a summer holiday. Thanks to our fantastic team of local volunteers, this is our free gift to the community.”
All the activities and workshops, were run by professionals, and were free for young people aged 8-16 years.
