The Bishop of London visited Canary Wharf today (14 June) to meet the drivers of two of the eight cabs of Europe's first fleet of electric eco-friendly private hire taxis.
The private hire taxis are operated by Orbital, headquartered in London's Docklands. They will cover Canary Wharf, the City and the West End. The vehicle, a Citroen Berlingo Electrique, has zero tailpipe emissions, making it the most environmentally friendly vehicle presently available.
A long standing campaigner for green issues, the Bishop said, 'Shrinking our Footprint is part of caring for creation which brings Christians and many other environmental campaigners together. Our problem is at root one of attitudes and awareness and how we overcome an autistic relation to the world in which we live. Everyone has a part to play in working out how we can continue to enjoy this beautiful world wisely and sustainably."
