St Mary Woolnoth, Lombard Street, EC3
6.30pm, Thursday 6 October, 2005
With issues of the environment currently dominating the national agenda, and as hurricanes of unprecedented force batter the coast of the USA, the Bishop of London will be delivering a keynote lecture on issues of environmental concern to churches, in the heart of the City of London on Thursday October 6th at 6.30pm (light refreshments available from 6pm). The venue is St Mary Woolnoth Church, Lombard Street London EC3 (nearest Tube: Bank on the Central and Northern lines).
The Bishop is the guest speaker for the LondonSCARE annual St Francis of Assisi Lecture 2005. LondonSCARE is an ecumenical environmental concerns group serving the Greater London area under the auspices of the Dioceses of London and Southwark. Membership is open to all Christians who feel called to take their responsibility for the environment seriously and who form a network across London churches. Activities include: lectures and seminars (on GM crops, tall buildings, phone masts, and the pollution caused by air travel), resources such as "Caring for God's World - an environmental audit for churches, schools and community projects", and liturgical celebrations such as "Down by the Riverside - a celebration of the gift of water", held in the open air on the banks of the Thames.
Currently LondonSCARE, at the request of the Bishops of London and Southwark, is completing a draft environmental policy and implementation plan for consideration for adoption by the two dioceses. Bishop Richard will be highlighting some of the priorities for such a policy and in his lecture.
All are welcome. This is a non-ticketed occasion. Further details from Chris Brice, Adviser for Social Justice in the Diocese of London: or from Joy Gadsby, secretary of LondonSCARE: ''"
